ABOUT PAVITRA
Pavitra Mohan began with MASALA CHAI (2007–2016) — a blog that became a global reference point for South Asian art and design. What started as curiosity turned into an archive, a community, and a cultural marker, with her work appearing in Elle, Grazia, The Hindu, The Smithsonian’s blog, and Kyoorius Magazine, among others. She later went on to found design stores under the MASALA CHAI brand, in her home city of Chennai.
In 2014, Pavitra was handpicked by Harvey Nichols (UK) to curate independent Indian designers at their flagship store in Riyadh.
She was a fellow of the 2015 cohort of the INK talks. (https://inktalks.com/people/pavitra-mohan) , where she spoke candidly to an audience of 600 industry innovators about creativity, vulnerability and the realities of curating and writing about art and design.

In 2016, she founded The Cooling Glass Company, creating sculptural sunglasses and headpieces for music festivals that drew admiration from designer Manish Arora and music artist M.I.A. The label was active until 2019, sitting at the intersection of fashion, performance, and playful rebellion.
In 2020, Pavitra self-published a book of poetry, Elegant Anxieties and the Magic of Heartache, exploring love and loss as a tactile, collectible object. Conceived as a visual and emotional artifact, the book was created in collaboration with an illustrator, layering symbolism and imagery to bring the poems to life.
Her return to interiors in 2021 under the moniker The Good Eye, leaned into her signature language of bold colour, playful elegance, and emotional warmth. Her work was recognised among the Top 25 in a national competition by Good Homes Magazine and she remains deeply obsessed with the art of styling spaces.
In 2022, she developed a startup concept with NSRCEL at IIM Bangalore. Though she chose not to pursue it beyond the incubator, the process deepened her relationship with innovation , learning how to carry an idea from conception to execution, a skill that continues to shape her work.
She is currently working on her debut novel , a layered, music-infused story of love, grief, wanderlust, and resilience.
Across mediums, Pavitra’s work blends words and visuals to make ideas feel intimate, cinematic, and alive .
